2022 Volkswagen Jetta vs. 2022 Hyundai Elantra: Refreshing Features, Power and Efficiency

2022 Volkswagen Jetta vs. 2022 Hyundai Elantra: Refreshing Features, Power and Efficiency

The redesigned 2022 Jetta is the perfect mix of practical and fun. It adds more power, new tech, and a style that is uniquely Volkswagen. Both the 2022 Jetta and Jetta GLI also deliver advanced turbocharged engines that include impressive efficiency.

Inside each model, you will find heated front seats and steering wheel, new seats and contrast stitching through the cockpit, and a host of available upgrades such as ventilated seats, ambient lighting, Rail 2 Rail power sunroof, and more.

However, there are competitors trying to catch up. Here, we line up the 2022 Jetta against the 2022 Hyundai Elantra.

The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has surprisingly strong and efficient power

The exciting new EA211 engine delivers 1.5L turbocharged power to all Jetta trims, reaching 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. The advanced design results in outstanding fuel economy, achieving a rating of 7.7 L/100 km in the city and 5.7 L/100 km on the highway with the 8-speed automatic transmission. This rating is practically tied with the 2.0L Elantra paired with a less sporty Continuously Variable Transmission, and the Jetta's output is much greater with more horsepower and over 50 lb-ft of additional torque! Even when compared to the Elantra's turbocharged engine, the standard Jetta's fuel economy leaves it in the dust.

The 2022 Jetta GLI takes the wind out of the competition's sails

When you want more out of the Jetta, the 2022 Jetta GLI moves up to a turbocharged 2.0-liter EA888 engine. The feeling of 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque in a compact configuration offers owners renewed exhilaration. Each GLI features a standard six-speed manual transmission, but you can upgrade to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission that is designed to facilitate acceleration.

The Elantra N Line attempts to compete with a 1.6L turbocharged engine that produces 201 horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque. However, these numbers fall quite short of the GLI's. There is also the Elantra N, which gains in performance, but sacrifices on comfort, and price. The additional performance of the GLI also isn't as costly as you think. Compared to the Elantra N and N Line's MSRP, the GLI makes the choice easy.
