The 2022 Volkswagen Jetta isn’t just more powerful, it’s more fuel-efficient as well

The new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta has received a host of improvements this year starting with a new design, new wheels, new colours, and a more powerful engine.

The latter, a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder, now offers 158 horsepower, an increase of 11 hp compared to the previous Jetta’s turbo. Torque remains the same at 184 pound-feet of torque which means that the 2022 Volkswagen Jetta remains the most powerful compact sedan in its segment.

That said, it is also one of the most fuel-efficient cars in its class, specifically with the long list of improvements made to the engine for the 2022 model-year. You can’t see these engines and you probably won’t feel them on the road either. That said, you will notice them when you take a look at your average fuel consumption.

Higher Compression Ratio

The new Jetta engine has a compression ratio of 11.5 to 1 compared to 10 to 1 in the previous model. This higher compression ratio means that the Jetta gets more power out of every drop of fuel which reduces fuel consumption.

Modified Miller Cycle

The Miller Cycle refers to how air circulates within the engine. VW engineers improved the cycle in order to improve air flow which in turn makes the engine more efficient.

More Boost Pressure

The new turbocharger is smoother and provides more boost, again making the engine work less hard and helping reduce fuel consumption.

More Injection Pressure

Injection pressure has increased from 200 bars to 350 bars which has multiple advantages. The most important is that the increased pressure means a more optimal mix of air and fuel in the cylinder.

Less Friction

Speaking of the cylinders, they receive a new special coating that reduces friction. Less friction means the engine doesn’t work as hard to use the available fuel and as expected, fuel consumption decreases.

The new 2022 Volkswagen Jetta continues to deliver the performance buyers want from a German compact sedan, but the car is more enjoyable, more refined, and, more importantly, more efficient. Contact us today to learn more!
